HOW IT WORKS / REVIEW EVALUATION

How to read UAE garage reviews

Use reviews to build a shortlist and better questions before you contact a garage. Start with patterns, dates and repair details; finish by confirming what matters for your car.

GarageIQ is prelaunch. This is a guide you can use today; live garage search and review scores are not available here.

Read beyond the average

Google says a business's review score is the average of all ratings published on Google. It may take up to two weeks to update after a new review. That average does not tell you whether customers had the same car, fault or repair as you. See Google's review-score explanation.

For a UAE driver comparing garages, the useful question is: what evidence relates to the work I need, and what still needs checking? The steps below are our practical reading method, not a tested scoring formula.

Five checks before you shortlist a garage

  1. Look for repeated patterns

Read several positive and negative reviews. Look for recurring details about diagnosis, quote changes, communication and whether the fault returned. Similar accounts from different reviewers are worth asking about; repeated wording alone does not prove independent experiences or authenticity.

Google Maps may highlight review topics and snippets, but these are a starting point. Open the underlying reviews and check the context. Google explains how its summaries work.

  2. Check dates and recentness

Compare newer accounts with older ones. Do recent reviews describe the same problem, or a different experience? A review's posting date may differ from the repair date. Treat missing dates or a long gap as uncertainty about today's service, not evidence that the garage is good or bad.

  3. Match specific details to your job

Look for the car model, symptoms, work carried out and outcome. A review describing an AC diagnosis is more relevant to your AC issue than praise for an unrelated tyre change. Specificity helps you decide what to ask; even a detailed account does not prove the diagnosis was correct.

  4. Keep the unknowns visible

A short review history, vague praise or conflicting accounts leaves gaps. Note what you found, what contradicts it and what is missing. Do not turn a few reviews into a confidence percentage, a fake-review verdict or a guarantee of your repair outcome.

  5. Verify with the garage

Use review themes to guide a call or message. Confirm the branch, current services and experience with your car and fault. Ask for a written diagnosis and itemised quote before approving work. A garage's explanation adds context; it does not independently verify a review.

Questions to ask before approving work

  • Have you worked on my model and this specific fault? What diagnosis will you do first?
  • Does the written quote separate parts, labour, diagnostic charges and VAT?
  • Which parts are proposed, and will you ask for approval before extra work?
  • What completion time is estimated, and how will you explain delays?
  • What warranty terms apply to this repair, and what is the process if the fault returns?

What does a price in a review mean?

It describes one person's job at one point in time. The work, parts and charges may differ from yours. Compare current written quotes for the same scope; a review is not a current price list. This guide provides no verified UAE price benchmarks.

What GarageIQ is building

GarageIQ's planned focus is garage discovery and review intelligence for UAE drivers: helping people understand reviews and compare options before deciding whom to contact. Today, the landing site explains that direction and collects early-access interest.

A live scoring method, verified garage coverage, review-authenticity checks and a data-refresh schedule are not confirmed here. This guide does not describe an implemented backend algorithm or verified dataset accuracy. Reviews cannot guarantee repair quality, and GarageIQ does not currently provide booking or repairs.
